Final Project
An Open Source Documentary filmed over a period of six years. The film debates the concept of copyright by following a collabrative remix work of peole who have contributed to the Open Source Cinema.
RIP:A Remix Manifesto
The documentary was inspired by Lawrence Lessig,an American academic and politiacian. He is proposing government to reduce legal restrictions on copyright, trademarks and radio frequencyspectrum, particularly in technology applications.
Brett Gaylor the producer of the documentary drafted the "Remix Manifesto" which reads:
1.Culture always builds on the past
2.The past always tries to control the future
3.Our future is becoming less free
4.To build free societies you must limit the control of the past.
Gaylor took his documentary further by serparating the corparations from the public domain. He played of the use of the corprate logo of "Copyright" and changed it by turning it and calling it "Copy left" to represent the the free exchange of ideas.
Walt Disney is a perfect example of a corporation that was built on the "Copy left" concept, remixing old folk stories and making them relevant but they would never admit it.
